Houston Celebrates Diversity

Renee Lewis in Udaipur, India.

According to the Houston Business Journal, HTown is going to welcome a new active adult developer to town catering to Houston’s Indian population.

Having visited India a few years ago and being taken with the vibrant life and color, the L&P team is looking forward to watching this community come to life.

ShantiNiketan, a Florida-based developer of Indian-focused active-adult communities, is apparently shopping for land in Katy, Sugar Land, Pearland and Aliana. In early 2018, the company plans to break ground on a Houston ShantiNiketan community in one of those four communities.

The article cites one of the reasons for choosing Houston as it is one of the first settlement zones for Indian professionals coming to the U.S.  (Interesting fact!)

The developer, ShantiNiketan, has multiple communities in central Florida. And, the company has plans to expand over the next 10 years, ShantiNiketan to 24 communities around the U.S. Houston, Dallas and New Jersey are the most high-demand markets for a company like ShantiNiketan.

The ShantiNiketan communities cater to active adults who are 55 years or older. The communities are open to all residents, Pajanor said, but their resident populations wind up being overwhelmingly comprised of retired doctors and engineers of Indian origin. More than 80 percent of ShantiNiketan’s residents fall into this classification, Pajanor said.

The idea behind ShantiNiketan is to provide an Indian-focused community for adults who want to move back to India but can’t for a number of reasons – their children and grandchildren live in the U.S., or they’ve lost ties with their family in India, for example. The features staples of the Indian culture – among other things, curries are served at almost every dinner and there’s a prayer room to accommodate residents’ daily prayers.

We are excited to welcome this new developer to Houston!

Namaste!
